Hi All,
Thousand apologies for gone missing in the last few months… Been hectic and not having set my eyes on a computer since…. until now.
Sometimes it’s nice to have those moments relived, when a plain piece of white paper and a ball pen were used as a mode of communication/ self expression/ blog writing…etc.
It does make you feel good… well, at least I did.
Specially when having it written while sitting on a tree..
Feeling the soft brush of the late afternoon breeze,
listening to the slow stroke of the pen grazing on the crispy white paper, leaving its ink of memories….
Watching the sun drops so gently over the horizon while sipping off a thermosful of joe’s…
The tree, resting on white powdery sands of Perhentian Island, off the east coast of Terengganu, Malaysia,
looking over the glistening blue ocean of the South China Sea, added with the sound of the slow slides of waves over pebbly beach and the rustles of the leaves grasping the west winds…
makes the whole write up, a pristine experience of its own.
I didn’t literally write a love letter to my partner to have these stories published on the blog… just merely jotting down the whole adventure
remembered (not something that you can forget instantaneously, you know) through out these time and now, here I am back in the good ol’ office, retyping word by word,
the adventures of those brave young buddyz of ours…
Skool Hols Adventure (Part 1)
—————————————–
This time around, we started our journey quite late in the morning… 2 cars left the township of Subang Jaya, Selangor, West Malaysia ( where i lived and where all the buddyz are as well) at about 10ish am…
Of course, beforehand, the pickups were required, the parents signature’s on the contract… and then, these young braves were released into the good hands of theStryderBuddyz.
I was not joking about them being young, they were 14 - 22 years of age! Yup yup, underage kids(half of them) searching for glory of their youths and fun of adventure!
Meet Zamaril (16), Zamaera (14) and Li Hui (14) in one car…(the young ones) On the other car, Fareeda (20) and Isaiah Kee( 22)… of course the cars were driven by myself (now known as BuddyBoe) and my good friend, BuddyZee. (I’m calling him that whether he likes it or not).
We left late due to a spontaneous change in the itinerary. We are not going to do anything today but just take our time travelling. Our adventure on the raft and the cave pending till tomorrow… but the journey is an adventure yet still.
Travelling… not only for fun, obviously you know it’s informative! imagine the things you never knew in your own country, exist, and there you were, querying yourself, are all these even real?
Such is the case with these young minds… they were awed and excited to find out about something, see with their own eyes, the magnificent enchantment nature and manmade wonders of Malaysia has to provide.
This is exactly what, not only the government continuously reiterating, but we as a person (parents, teachers, brothers, sisters, frens) should be exposing our kids to… First Hand Experience.
Yes, you may say that they can learn well (or probably better) with their internet access and high end technology in the comfort and safety of their own home, but this is where they forgot to ask,
“where/how was all these information being gathered?”
If not for all you adrenaline, adventure junkies who had the idea to write about it, take a pic and show it, they wouldn’t know… I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for such bravery to climb the highest mountain, row in to the deepest valley, cramping bodies to the smallest of holes, swim into the vastness of the ocean, even crapping or pissing yourself, just to get those pics, those moments, that we all can share….
Believe me, I’m not against technology, I am so grateful for it.. without it, we won’t be advancing to where we are now… (and you won’t probably read all this)
yet, with all the PSP’s, Playstations, XBOX and whatever not, they’re great entertainment modules but where is the message of self respect, live healthy, go green, save the ocean, etc….? Kapish… Wala’ na.. Yilek… Mei Yow… Ma’Fi… N’a Pas… Don’t have.. Takde…
Parent/ children, teacher/student communications are going to be enhanced and they’ll be more bonded when they spend more time and doing things together.
Kids are not easy to show their appreciation, but there will be those days when they will reconcile their minds and see what they have accomplished…
and most importantly, who.. they have accomplish it with…….
We again head on the same direction as the previous journey we had, through the suburbs and small townships, passing along areas of which we had a good laugh and cheap thrills.
Do you know that there is such a place called Kampung Rasa ( Taste Village)and just a couple of kilometres more, there’s another place called Kampung Rasa Tambahan (Additional Taste Village)?
Not to mention Kampung Menyorok (Hiding Village… or better yet pronounced as Hidden Village)? Believe me, this place is yet to be found (by myself)….
All these places are located almost at the very end of nothern state of Selangor(on the way to Tanjung Malim, Perak).
A lot more places we passed, those of which these young buddyz of ours learnt only in their History lessons at school. Now, they see it for themselves.
By the time we reached our exit point at Gua Tempurung, lunch was craved by the lot. Had a good meal before heading into our most favourite place, where the tree houses were, Earth Camp!
Immediately we grab our keys, dump our bags and take a moment to chill… Changed our clothes and jump into the river! I lead these kids through a small adventure… walking against the current, until we reached a more subtle part, then show them how the white water swim was done… No life jackets, just good swimmers and experienced lifesavers; and these kids were really adventurous!
Kinda scary when you’ve been put so much of trust and expectation on you… But again, I wouldn’t worry a bit.
Water was just knee deep… ehheheheheeh…..
Time flies by when we have fun… Just can’t believe it’s already dusk.. and I’m yet to start a fire for our Barbeque Dinner! Yikes!
As everyone takes their bath and jolly good time taking pics and poses, the grill was up, the fire hot, and the meats are ready to be charred… Helping themselves to a plate of rice and vege provided by our most kind Nomad Adventure; they came running back to the campfire with dripping saliva, waiting to pounce onto the sweet smelling barbequed lamb, fish, prawns, squids and chickens; tendered and heavily marinated with BBQ marinating sauce, onions, garlic, black and white pepper, with dashes of rosemary and mint to enhance the taste and smell nontheless.
Everyone, and I mean everyone was literally high, after a full hour of stuffing themselves. Best part of the nite, of course, was star gazing!
This time around, using a big canvas to have all of us fit in, we just laid back and enjoyed viewing the gazillion stars shining brightly, decorating the big black bluish sky, like diamond buttons on JLo’s dark blue jeans…
Swaying to the music from their MP3’s (obviously not mine!), we were there for hours till late. I’m not surprised that they continued chatting and giggling throughout the night on their tree houses.
After all, they’re kids………
Heads up for part 2…….
